URGENT bug with archived/draft product

    Hi Mari/Irina

I was testing out the Site, and I found that:

If a customer added a particular Product to Wishlist, Compare and Cart, IF after that, the store owner decides to archive/draft that product from the store (e.g. doesn't want to sell it anymore, want to hide it from store, temporarily hide from store, etc), then:

    1) Compare will show a liquid error,  instead of saying something like "Sorry, item is currently not available."
    2) Wishlist will still count the draft/archived item, although not showing it (in my example wishlist should be 1 instead of 2, after i archive the product)
    3) archived/draft item is still in shopping cart.
    4) while it does says "out of stock" at the check out page, it's charging customers the price of the archived/draft item....!

Are you able to fix the above? (In my screenshots the 8-bit Throw Pillow was archived to test. You can test it on your own site... by doing the steps mentioned above as well)

Second part of the screenshots (since each time can only upload 4...)

i understand that you keep the count so that when store owner set active for the archived/draft product again, the product will indeed show up again in compare, wishlist. That’s correct. But during the period when it’s archived/draft and yet to be set active again, i think you can consider showing some text messages like “Sorry, product is currently unavailable” or something at the compare, and maybe don’t show the real count of 2 products in wishlist, show only the active count (eg should show 1 in my example)... and when store owner set the item back to active in future, the wishlist count can be 2...

    goodolvintage replied

as for the shopping cart... i think maybe can show some label or something saying “this product is currently not available” or something too? Or maybe remove it from shopping cart, just like the wishlist? And show it again after the store owner set it to active again in future?

    Hi Irina/Mari...

I took more screenshots so that you can see clearer the problem for Shopping Cart, Wishlist and Check Out Page. The Shipping Page (page after Checkout page) seems ok.. so only problems are:

    1) Compare - to show a nicer message like “Sorry, product is currently unavailable” instead of "Liquid Error"..
    2) Wishlist - In my example, the Wishlist should show the count as 1 if product hidden, but show it back as 2 when product is set back to active. It should still show the archived/draft product when the product is set back to active in future, just like what you are doing now, just that during the period when the product is set to archive/draft... is should not show the actual count of 2 products, but show the temporary count of 1 product.
    3) Shopping Cart - The same thing for Shopping Cart... I'm not very sure which is a better solution:
    a) To NOT show the hidden product at all (but show it again when product is back to "active"... just like the Wishlist) OR
    b) to still show it anyway, BUT to say "Out of stock"... (see other suggestion.png)
    4) Check out page - As per my suggestion at "checkout page before shipping page.png". The hidden product's price on the right-hand side should be removed ...since it's already considered "Out of stock".. Including it in the subtotal price will make people assume that the price will be included even though it says "out of stock" on the left.. and they will most probably abandon cart immediately, thinking that there is a glitch. Whereby actually if they pressed on to Shipping Page, despite the wrong pricing,  the price will suddenly show correctly without the out of stock item... But they wouldn't have known that if they were to abandon cart the moment they saw the combined price at the checkout page ....

Maybe it's better to still show the hidden product as "out of stock" in the shopping cart instead of hiding it,  so that customers can choose to remove them from their cart. If hidden then they cannot have the option to remove it... hmm. The same thing for wishlist maybe.

So far I only tested for product is set from "active" to "archive"/"draft". I have NOT test what will happen if:
    1) product is "active" but "out of stock"
    2) Product is "active" but "out of stock" but the "continue selling even if out of stock" is checked...

Hi Mari/Irina, sorrry for the multiple messages, but I found out the wishlist is actually showing correctly. I just have to click on "View Wishlist" button and it will show me the 2 products (1 archived, the other still active). Therefore the wishlist is totally correct (NO problems for wishlist) to show the product count as "2" instead of "1" at the right pop up. So the only bugs will be as follows:

    1) Compare - to show a nicer message like

This product has been removed from the store.

    Remove

(which is exactly like what you have for the wishlist, please see my screenshot in this message)

    2) Shopping Cart - To still show the product anyway, BUT to say "Out of stock"... (see "other suggestion.png")
    3) Check out page - As per my suggestion at "checkout page before shipping page.png".

    Thanks...

    Hi Mari,

I want to say that the following issues are for when an "active" product suddenly became "archived" or "draft".

However, I discovered that if an "active" and "in-stock" product that a customer adds to cart (without checking out).... and then several days later, the added "active" product became "out of stock" (product listing is still active, not archived or draft like in my previous examples), then when customer checks out, the price of the "out of stock" but ACTIVE product will also be added to the subtotal at check out. The wishlist/compare are ok...

    So now got 2 problems/scenarios
Problem 1: Product was active, customer adds it to compare, wishlist, and cart. Product is then archived/draft by store owner to temporary hide it from store. Compare, cart and checkout then have problems. Compare will say liquid error, Cart will still have the product but say nothing (never say "Out of stock" or "This product has been removed from the store.", etc), and Check Out page will still add the item price to subtotal, despite saying "out of stock" on the left.  Wishlist is ok and perfectly fine as it will show "This product has been removed from the store." and with a "Remove" link.

Problem 2: Product was active and in stock. Customer then adds it to compare, wishlist, and cart. Product is then suddenly "out of stock" afterwards, but the product is still active (e.g. it could be that the variant that the customer chooses suddenly become out of stock, etc), product is NOT draft or archived like in previous example. Then, cart and checkout will have problems. Cart will have problems <-- (Probably same as above I think? I forgot to screenshot this part yesterday... Now the product the is back in stock by my supplier so I'm not sure how to test this again...) , and Check Out page will still add the item price to subtotal, despite saying "out of stock" on the left (for this I remembered to screenshot. You may see my screenshots as attached now). Compare and wishlist are okay (they will simply show out of stock status..).

My store is live now by the way... so if you are able to set the out of stock thingy at your own demo site would be great... (I don't know how to set out of stock anyway, it just happen coincidentally that the item i added to cart became out of stock and i saw the above..).. now the item is back in stock so I'm not sure how to replicate this again.

    Hi, goodolvintage,

    My developer checked the issue.

It is not a theme related. The Debut Shopify theme has the exact same behavior.

This how the Shopify software works.

um... so even the “liquid error” message on compare list is normal? Maybe you can read my whole message again and see which ones are bugs that are fixable and let me know again?

    Mari replied

    Hi, goodolvintage,

My developer will fix the liquid errors.

I recommend to create one ticket per each issue, and be as laconic as possible.

It will help us to focus on the issue.

    Stay safe and healthy.

ok... please make the message in compare to be the same as shown in the message shown in wishlist (wishlist is correct, only compare has the liquid error)... so as to standardize..  thanks!

So there's no way to NOT include the out of stock product prices into the subtotal at checkout?

    Hi, goodolvintage,

Here is reply of my developer

"when a product disappears and it has been added to comparisons or wishlist, it is simply not shown there, but the counter in the header on the icon will take this product into account. to reset you just need to click "remove all".
Unfortunately, there is no other way"

    Stay safe and healthy.

    Hi Mari

Did your developer saw the screenshot I sent then (by clicking "View Wishlist")?

    pls%20the%20message%20same%20as%20like%20wishlist_346.png

It's possible at the Wishlist, so why is it not possible at the Compare list?

Like I said, the wishlist is CORRECT... it shows 3 items in the count, but displays 2 items. When you click "View wishlist" it will show you the screenshot above (which explains why the count is 3 not 2..).

For the Compare.... it used to be a "Liquid error" message. But now I think you changed it to simply display nothing. HOWEVER,  if you simply just hide it without explaining/giving a message (UNLIKE in the wishlist), then user wouldn't understand why the count is 1 product greater than what is shown... WHICH IS WHY I said to make it like the wishlist, show the same error message ("This product ............store" Remove).... JUST LIKE in the wishlist, so user at least know there's a removed product... instead of seeing product count that doesn't match the number of products shown.... you understand this right???

    goodolvintage replied

I mean.... if the subtotal fix (to hide out of stock price in subtotal) is too hard for you... then at least this fix is logically and definitely doable right... since the WISHLIST already has it.... so it makes sense that the Compare list follows the same logic...

    Hi Mari

I think your developer had removed the message for both Wishlist and Compare, INSTEAD of adding the message to Compare, as per what we have discussed. Currently there's no message for both Wishlist & Compare, so users don't know what's going on.......  Kindly add the message back for both Wishlist and Compare, as per we have discussed. Actually the Wishlist was correct (wishlist was showing a message to inform people that the product has been removed from store, alongside with a "remove" link, as per screenshot), so I'm really not sure why he removed that message from Wishlist. He should be ADDING the Wishlist's message to Compare instead... (such that both Wishlist and Compare has the same message informing customers that the product is no longer available, alongside with a "remove" link),  NOT to remove the message from Wishlist...

Anyway.. you may test it on the product called "Master System vs NES Mini Enamel Mug" by SPOD. As per circled in the screenshot. Please kindly DO NOT archive/draft any other products... because I painstakingly publish the products in sequence such that when sort by "descending" https://www.gamestgeek.com/collections/all?sort_by=created-descending , it matches in the similar sequence/order for the designs at https://www.gamestgeek.com/pages/all-designs . If you accidentally archive/draft and then set "active" the wrong product... it will disrupt this sequence/order and I may need to re-publish like more than 50 products in sequence again.... so please be careful... thank you..!!!

As attached, you can see the product that I circled, which is safe to set as "active" and then later on you can add it in Compare and Wishlist. After adding to compare and wishlist, you can draft/archive that product. You will see that there's no message in the Compare and Wishlist now.. nothing to inform users of what happened. No choice for them to "remove" the archived/hidden item too. Therefore, please add the message back for Wishlist, and then also apply the same message for Compare, as per we previously discussed. Kindly see screenshots too. Thank you!!

Hi Mari... why did you archive and re-publish the CoupleGoals sweatshirt???? it's supposed to be at the very bottom of my list..... now I have to re-publish more 188 products because of this mistake .... I already given you the screenshot of the product to use in my previous message, I even circled it out for you...... why why why did you still use another product... and the product that's supposed to be at the very bottom.... -.-..... whyyyyyyyy?

    Hi, goodolvintage,

It looks like my developer forgets about the test product you mention. Unfortunately, it is hard to keep sorted all your long texts.

My developer applied the change your need. You may check it now.

If the feature works as you expected, give me instructions on how to update your products, I will help you.

    Hi Mari

"It looks like my developer forgets about the test product you mention. Unfortunately, it is hard to keep sorted all your long texts." <-- Ermm... okayyyy.....

My developer applied the change your need. You may check it now. <-- I checked. It's working correctly now. Will this fix be included in future versions of the theme?

If the feature works as you expected, give me instructions on how to update your products, I will help you. <-- Well... since you already mentioned your developer had trouble/problems understanding long/detailed instructions even with screenshots..... I'm not sure if this will be a good idea, since I'm not sure if you will personally be the one updating, or will it be your developer be the one updating...Therefore, I think it might be better if I just do it myself and spend like 1 to 2 hours updating the 180+ products on my own...

You may close this ticket... just make sure to include this fix in future versions of Shella. Thanks.
